An Insurtech company was already tracking thousands of bikes, but the end customer didn't get to use it, primarily because opening it up for daily use would quickly exhaust the battery.
We put together the brand plus a framework of GPS & Bluetooth trackers along with a home bridge device that could help reduce battery consumption in all trackers as well as download ride information and provide firmware updates.
We built a phone app (in beta) that wouldn't just tell the user where their bike was, but where it had been, uploading rides and calculating everything from calorie consumption, Vitamin D doses, UV exposure and CO2e saved (vs a car) by tying in multiple APIs.
And we designed it around a cycling household, so users can see at a glance where all their bikes are: receiving notifications when a child arrives at school plus crash detection using an accelerometer.
The most important requirement was battery life - we prototyped low power Bluetooth tracking hardware with a potential 3-year battery life under daily use.
It still worked brilliantly as a lost tracker - using Channel Sounding for exact direction and barometric pressure comparison between tracker and phone to get elevation (helpful for high rise buildings to locate the floor).
